Short Courses

Putney School of Art and Design offer short courses to those wanting to experiment with multiple methods of art. Our unique offerings allow creativity to flow and open up a new world of creativity. Our availability is very limited so if there is something you like the look of below, please give us a ring on 020 3959 0110 or email us at psad@enablelc.org.

While our term courses are 6 – 12 weeks long, we offer short courses for those who are only available for part of the term. Some of our Saturday and evening classes are pay as you go which allows even more flexibility with our creative sessions, offering a one off session for those who want to try a class before fully committing.

Short Weekday Courses

Online Draw and Paint in Mixed Media

Mondays | 2pm

An exciting project-based course, exploring expressive ways to create drawings and paintings using mixed media. The course has been specially designed for an online platform with plenty of live demos and consideration for those making work at home.

Digital & Darkroom (B&W) Photography

Mondays| 6.30pm

This course is ideal for complete beginners who have never developed or experienced a darkroom before and print images from traditional sources as well as playing and experimenting with light to create photograms cyanotypes, drawings and sketches made in to photographs and photograms.

Introduction to Drawing

Fridays | 10am

This course is for students with little or no drawing experience and would like to learn to draw from observation. You will learn the basic principles of observational drawing, beginning with simple shapes and proportion through to conveying volume and space.

Painting Taster Sessions

Thursdays | 6:30pm

This 3 week course is designed for the student with little or no painting experience, although it might prove useful to those who would like to add a little more structure to their painting experience. Projects and exercises within the course will be broad-based and inclusive.

Introduction to Watercolour and Experimental Techniques

Thursdays | 2pm

This course is designed for beginners with little or no experience with the delicate medium of watercolour. We will work and develop your skills and a focus on understanding of the experimental medium of watercolour. We will explore traditional methods of mixing colour and students will also be encouraged to play and develop their own take on the age-old method.

B&W Darkroom Photography

Thursdays | 2pm & 6pm

This course is ideal for complete beginners who have never developed or experienced a darkroom before as well as those students wanting to develop film and print images from traditional sources as well as playing and experimenting with light to create photograms cyanotypes, drawings and sketches made in to photographs and photograms.

Experimental Printmaking

Thursdays | 10am

This course is suitable for beginners and also for students with some experience who would welcome a structured refresher course. This course will introduce and encourage experimentation with a range of techniques including monoprint, drypoint, collagraph and more. Suitable for those new to printmaking, or those wanting a refresher.

Watercolour Painting

Wednesdays | 6:30pm

This course is structured so that students with either little watercolour experience or those with many years of painting experience benefit from the sessions.

Learn to Draw

Tuesdays |6:30pm

This course is aimed at complete beginners who have never drawn or who have not drawn for many years or have no confidence in their drawing and need help and encouragement.

Garden Design

Tuesdays | 10am

This is an intensive 6 -week course aimed at people who are interested in garden design but have varied to no experience of gardening or design.

Short Drawing Courses

Tuesdays | 14pm

You will be able to explore the creative possibilities of drawing, gain confidence and broaden your expectations and understanding of the subject. Each highly focused course will cover slightly different aspects of drawing. For example the function of line, tone, texture, mark making and composition, through carefully structured approaches. On occasion we may spend time drawing in galleries or museums. The courses are suitable for both experienced students and those just beginning their drawing journeys.
